Stay put and don't wander about. Shout for help. Audible signals carry best at dusk or whenever there is little wind.

Use a signal mirror. If one is not available, find a discarded aluminum can. Use the shiny inside as a mirror. To use a signal mirror at night, beam your flashlight against the reflective side of your mirror.

Burn green vegetation to make white smoke, which is seen easily on a clear day. Burn anything with petroleum—plastics, rubber—to create black smoke, which is more visible on overcast days.
